Frequently Asked Questions

  • Flame Guards

  • Why do I see two different dimensions for the flame guard?

The assembled dimensions are larger than the pan so that the flame guard rests on the tabletop and sits away from the flames.

  • What size flame guard do I need?

You can look up our Flame Guard size chart here to determine the best size for your fire pit. We recommend having at least a 2.5” clearance on each side of the burner area of your fire pit, and that your flame guard be placed on the outside of your fire pit for optimal performance.

  • Do you make custom flame guards?

Yes! We can make you a custom flame guard. To get a quote for yours, please email [email protected] or call 888-264-1017 and one of our representatives will gladly assist you.

  • What is a flame guard and what does it do?

A flame guard (also called a wind guard) is a clear glass barrier that surrounds your fire pit burner. It helps block wind, stabilize the flame, and protect surrounding surfaces and people from direct heat.

  • Do I really need a flame guard for my fire pit?

If your fire pit is in a windy or open area, yes. A flame guard keeps your flame steady, improves fuel efficiency, and protects the flame from being blown out. It is especially important for electronic ignition systems.

  • Will a flame guard block the heat?

Not at all. Flame guards are made of tempered glass, which allows heat and light to pass through while shielding the flame from wind.

  • Are flame guards safe to use?

Yes. Our flame guards are made from high-strength tempered glass that’s heat-resistant, shatter-resistant, and designed for high-temperature environments.

  • Can I use a flame guard with any fire pit?

Flame guards work with most fire pits, especially rectangular, square, or round fire tables. Just make sure you choose the right size and shape to fit around your burner area.

  • How do I choose the right size flame guard?

Measure the burner area, not the whole fire pit. Your flame guard should be about 2–3 inches larger than the burner on all sides for proper protection and ventilation.

  • Will a flame guard block my view of the fire?

Not at all! The clear glass gives you a full view of the flame while adding a sleek, modern look to your fire feature.

  • How do I clean a flame guard?

Simply wipe it down with a soft cloth and ammonia free glass cleaner. Make sure the glass is cool before cleaning to avoid streaking or cracking.

  • Can I leave my flame guard on year-round?

Yes. It’s designed for outdoor use and can stay on in all seasons. For extreme weather or long periods of non-use, you can store it indoors to keep it looking brand new.

  • Burner Covers

  • Does the lid fit over or inside of the flame guard?

Burner covers sit outside of the drop-in pans and inside of the flame guard.

  • What is a burner cover, and why do I need one?

A burner cover is a protective lid that goes over your fire pit burner when it’s not in use. It helps keep out rain, leaves, debris, and critters. So your fire pit stays clean and ready to use.

  • Can I leave my fire pit uncovered?

You can, but it’s not recommended. Exposure to the elements can lead to rust, clogged burners, and reduced performance over time. A cover helps extend the life of your investment.

  • Are burner covers heat resistant?

Our burner covers are made to withstand high outdoor temperatures, but they should only be placed on the fire pit after the flame has been turned off and the components have cooled down.

  • Do covers come in different shapes and sizes?

Absolutely. We offer round, square, and rectangular covers to fit our different burner styles and pan sizes.

  • Do I need a burner cover if I already have a fabric fire pit cover?

Yes. While fabric covers protect the whole unit, a burner cover specifically protects the burner components from moisture getting in underneath. They work great together.

  • Fittings and Parts

  • What makes your quiet flex lines better than a regular gas line?

Whistle free flex line has alternating corrugation to disrupt gas flow and prevent whistling.

  • What should my water column pressure be?

For natural gas you will need 7" to 9" water column. For propane you will need 9" to 11" water column. Your contractor will have to ensure the gas line is sized correctly to deliver sufficient volume to your burner and get the maximum flame height.

  • Do I need vents in my fire pit?

All natural gas and propane fire features require a minimum of 36 square inches of venting total. The vents would be on opposing sides of the enclosure.

  • How do I stop my burner from whistling?

In most cases, whistling comes from improper connector sizing or unauthorized equipment use such as connectors purchased from local hardware stores. The connectors that we offer are designed to help eliminate whistling and are not available at the average hardware store.

  • What parts come with a fire pit kit, and what do I need to buy separately?

Most kits include basic parts like flex lines and key valves, but depending on your setup, you may need additional fittings, air mixers (for propane), or key extensions. Check the product page for what's included.

  • Can I mix and match parts from different kits?

Some parts are universal, but others are gas-specific or thread-specific (like NPT sizes). Always check compatibility or consult a pro to avoid leaks or unsafe connections.

  • What’s the difference between propane and natural gas fittings?

Propane requires specific fittings like air mixers to burn cleanly, while natural gas doesn’t. Using the wrong parts can lead to poor performance or safety hazards.

  • How do I know what size fittings I need?

Most residential gas fire pits use 1/2" or 3/4" fittings. Measure your gas line or check your burner specs. Or just reach out to our team. We're happy to help you find the right size.

  • Do I need to seal the threads on my fittings?

Yes! Always use gas-rated thread sealant on NPT threads only (like yellow Teflon tape or pipe dope) to prevent leaks. Never use regular white plumber’s tape for gas connections.

  • Can I install the fittings and parts myself?

Some handy homeowners can do it, especially for match light kits. But for safety, we always recommend having a licensed professional handle gas connections.

  • What if I lose or damage a part? Can I buy replacements?

Absolutely. We offer individual replacement parts so you don’t have to buy a whole new kit. Reach out with what you need, and we’ll get you the right part.

  • CSA Certified Burner Pan Kits

  • What does CSA stand for?

CSA is Canadian Standards Association, the certification works for the US.

  • What features are different about these pans than the Spark Ignition?

There is a safety shutoff valve, the gas will turn off if the flames are blown out. These also come with a beautiful rear flush mounted control panel.

  • Do I need to run power to this unit?

No, the CSA pans are battery operated.

  • Are CSA pans for Natural Gas or Propane?

The CSA pans come set-up for use with a 5-gal propane tank, comes with conversion kit to Natural Gas or Whole Home Propane.

  • Can I use this in a commercial application?

These pans are commonly used in commercial applications, but we recommend working with a fire certified professional familiar with your local codes and requirements.

  • What gauge are your CSA burner pans?

CSA burner pans are made of 18-gauge .304 stainless steel.

  • Electronic Ignition Kits

  • How do I control the unit?

Hard wired SIT Systems can be run with a timer/switch/smart home.  Battery powered options have a 2hr timer switch.

  • What is an AWEIS and why would I need one?

AWEIS stands for All-Weather Electronic Ignition System. It allows you to light your fire pit with the push of a button, even in rain or wind. It’s perfect for both convenience and safety.

  • Can I install an AWEIS myself?

These systems should be installed by a licensed professional. They involve electrical and gas components, so it’s best to leave it to the pros.

  • Will the AWEIS system still work in the rain or wind?

Yes. Our AWEIS units are designed to operate in all weather conditions, including wind, rain, and even snow.

  • How do I turn the system on and off?

Most AWEIS setups include a switch, wall control, or can be connected to smart home systems. Some models even offer remote control or timer options.

  • What happens if the flame goes out unexpectedly?

The AWEIS includes a safety shutoff feature. If the flame is blown out, it automatically cuts the gas to prevent leaks. It will attempt to relight several times before shutting down and requiring a manual reset.

  • Spark Ignition Kits

  • How do I mount the spark ignitor to the pan?

The plate to mount the spark ignition is in a red bag attached to the packaging of the pan.

  • Do I need anything else with the Spark Ignition Kit?

The Push Button Ignitor Mounting Plate to install next to the key valve is an optional finishing piece.

  • Why are the prongs sticking so far out of the fire glass?

We recommend using 2-4” of fire glass over the burner, different applications use different depths. The leads can be trimmed to 1/8” over the glass and the tips need to be bent to within 1/8” of each other (use 2 pairs of pliers as not to break the lead off the base).

  • What is a spark ignition kit?

A spark ignition kit lets you light your fire pit with the push of a button, no matches needed. It creates a spark (like a grill lighter) that ignites the gas and starts the flame.

  • How is a spark ignition kit different from a match light kit?

With a match light kit, you light the flame by hand. Whereas with a spark ignition kit, the flame starts automatically using a push button spark ignitor.

  • Do spark ignition kits need electricity?

Nope! They run on a battery. That means no hardwiring and no need to plug anything in, just simple and easy operation.

  • How do I turn off the fire pit with a spark ignition kit?

Turn the gas valve to the "off" position. The flame will shut off, and the igniter doesn’t need to be reset, it’s ready to go for next time.

  • What happens if the spark doesn’t light the fire right away?

If the flame doesn’t start, wait a few seconds before trying again to avoid gas buildup. If you still have issues, check the battery or make sure the igniter is clean and properly connected.

  • Can I upgrade from a match light kit to a spark ignition kit?

Yes! Many fire pit owners start with a basic match light setup and later upgrade to a spark ignition system for easier, more convenient lighting.

  • Match Light Kits

  • How do I turn on the gas?

This kit includes one hose and one straight ball valve to turn on the gas, you must have access to the gas stub or additional parts.

  • What is a match light kit?

A match light kit is a simple and reliable way to light your gas fire pit. You light a match (or long lighter), manually open the gas valve, and place the flame near the burner to ignite it.

  • Why choose a match light kit over other ignition systems?

Match light kits are affordable, easy to install, and don’t require electricity. They’re perfect if you want a low-maintenance and budget-friendly option.

  • Is it safe to use a match to light a fire pit?

Yes, as long as you follow the instructions. Always stand back, keep your face away from the pit, and light the match before turning on the gas.

  • Can I use a match light kit with both propane and natural gas?

Yes, but make sure you order the correct version for your gas type. Each kit is designed to safely regulate either propane or natural gas, never both interchangeably.

  • How do I turn off a match light fire pit?

Just close the gas valve completely. The flame will go out immediately, and there are no electronics or switches to worry about.

  • Do I need a key valve with a match light kit?

No. Match light kits include a key valve, which is installed on the side of your fire pit. This valve lets you safely control the gas flow with a removable key.

  • Can I upgrade my match light kit later?

Absolutely. Many customers start with a match light setup and later upgrade to a spark ignition or electronic system as their needs change.
